About Finn
Born and raised in Toronto, bassist and composer Finn Chercover leads the band FCTION, with likeminded local musicians Gianluca Occhipinti, Sam Heggum-Truscott and Avshalom Ravitz-Heller. Playing Finn’s original compositions, FCTION has been performing around Toronto since 2025.
Finn picked up the bass just before high school and was inspired to study at the Rosedale Heights School of the Arts (RHSA) - a secondary school that encourages students to explore arts across a variety of disciplines.
During the school year at RHSA, Finn also studied at the Humber Community Music School and spent a couple summers in Boston at the Berklee College of Music. Back in Toronto, he played bass for the JazzFM Youth Big Band. In his graduating year at RHSA, Finn won the Principal’s Award for Music. After high school, he enrolled at Humber Polytechnic where he is working towards a degree in Jazz Performance.
Outside of FCTION, Finn has performed with other ensembles across the city, and plays in a variety of musical idioms from jazz to soul to gospel to funk.
